Cast on 48, 2x2 12 rows, continue 11 more rows in pattern - k 1 round; (k6, p2)x6 2nd round.
Start thumb on round 24 (a purl round): k2, (kfb)x2, k2, p2, (k6, p2)x5…continue in this way (knitting plain on all odd rounds) until there are 21 thumb sts, including the “purls” at the edges of the thumb, then remove thumb to waste yarn and cast on one more.
Continue in pattern to fingers (59 rounds), then finish with 12 rounds 2x2.
Pick up thumb sts plus 3, then decrease out 4 sts over the next 4 rounds. Work 2x2 for 8 rounds.
