Notes

I like this pattern as soon as I saw it - I have a thing for Icelandic style sweaters this year. It also caught my attention as it is called “Adelaide” - my darling BFs home town!

I wasn’t expecting to start on this so soon, but the yarn was on a massive sale at Spotlight and I thought they’d be the perfect colours for this. Unfortunately I could only get 4 different colours in this yarn, and I couldn’t find another brand with a 5th complementary colour so I have modified the charts a little to use the colours that I do have.

After knitting the start of the first sleeve, I am quite happy with how the pattern is turning out, albeit a little more subtle than the original. I had a little trouble with tension for the coloured pattern. I am using the magic loop method and when I “turn the corner” I wanted to make sure the carried yarn wasn’t too tight, but it ended up a bit loose. I think I’ve been able to correct it as I went though.

So, there has been a minor change… I was at Spotlight on the weekend and I found a light orange yarn that was the right shade, right fibre and right texture! So I bought 2 balls, ripped out what I’d done of the sleeve and added in the orange like in the pattern. As I’m using pastels, the colours aren’t as striking as the original pattern, but I think it still looks pretty nice.

Last night as I started the increase rows on the second sleeve, I realised that I’d done 6 repeats instead of the required 11 on the first sleeve. I have no idea why I did that, as I’d circled all of my numbers before I started the pattern. Luckily I had been trying it on as I went, so I know it still fits ok. But I knew that it would affect my stitch count when I got to the yoke. I went through the rest of the pattern and worked out that it wasn’t going to be too hard to correct in the last lot of decreases before the colour work. Phew! I really didn’t want to have to undo the first sleeve.

Have just finished the decrease rounds in the body and starting on the increases. This is coming along quite nicely and much quicker than I expected. Thankfully I’ve got all of this nervous knitting energy while waiting for the next clue for my Follow Your Arrow shawl.

I’m surprised at how quickly this is working up. I was able to take this with me and work on it over the weekend while I was in… Adelaide! Yay! I now have the sleeves joined and just about up to the short rows. Really need to add some more photos

Finally finished this. Stuffed up after the short rows and stitch count so had to rip back after starting the first of the colour round but got there in the end. It’s not perfect, but it’s my first sweater. I can’t wait to get the chance to wear it!
