Notes

My son and his wife brought this yarn back from Japan and it took me almost seven years to find just the right pattern.

Started on the 34/36 size, then stopped and pondered if I should not go up a size for a more loose fit after reading carolmcq‘s notes carol‘s even flow
I still can’t decide, but thinking of my Tealeaf Sweater which is so cozy, I should maybe just go for the larger size.
I would pick the in between size 36/38 if only there was that size.
I am on target with my gauge, but could use a #7 needle to make it bigger…

Used these needles:
#7 for elongated stitch pattern
#6 for st st
#5 for first 7 and last 3 rows of the pocket lining

To get a good fit between S and M I made the following changes:

1) I decided on using a #7 needle. The yarn label, too, suggests the bigger needle (7-8) and it looks better.

2) I started the armhole shaping at 7 1/4 inches.

3) I CO 5 sts each time at the armhole shaping for a total of 95 sts.

Another change: I am working the right and left front at the same time ( much like two at a time socks) keeping the 25 middle stitches on a short spare cable from my interchangeable set.

The Elongated stitch pattern is quick to work and easy to remember. I am working the cables without a cable needle as the elongated stitch stays in place quite nicely just slipping it off the needle and holding it until it needs to be worked.

Working all increases in size M I end up with a total of 155 sts when joining the fronts and back. This works out in pattern 155-2-1=152 ; a multiple of 4 and also under each armhole 10+10+5+(2x1 the edge sts)+1( beginning st from elongated stitch pattern)= 28; a multiple of 4.

11.27. joined front and back this morning and the armholes look rather large ( something new to fret about). I am contemplating if I should rip back six rows before the armhole shaping.
Meanwhile I carry on and more rows I get done the less likely it is that I make any changes.

12.1. I am on my third ball of yarn and so far each ball has had some knots. I am not too thrilled by that confused

12.3. Half way done with the increases, but had to spend some time thinking today as I noticed that I had worked six instead of four slipped stitch rows persevere But back on track now.

About the length

12.8. I am on my eight increase and I am wondering about some of the comments on the length ( too long). So I did the math and 8x 18 rows is a total of 144 rows which at a gauge of 28 rows per 4 inches is 20.5 inches. In the pattern it says work to 19 inches. So, either the gauge is different or the increases have to be worked more frequently than every 18 rows….
19 inches in gauge is 133 rows.
I worked the eight increase after 12 instead of 18 rows and started the ribbing on smaller needles immediately in the next row.

12.10. Connecting the front / Collar to the back stitches is made easier by having used a cable from my interchangeable set to hold the back stitches. I simply attach a needle to one end of the held stitches and when I come to the P 2tog I slip the last stitch from my RH needle to the needle which holds the back stitches and then P2tog.

12.11. Finished the left front/ collar and started on the right star-struck

Pockets
To get a neater edge and since the backwards loop cast on is rather loose, I cast on 30 stitches and then added 4 more in the first row of ribbing into the cast on stitches.
I also did a P1, K1 in the ribbing of the Right Front/ Collar Pocket to have symmetry with the left.

12.12. Joined front and back by knitting the first joining row onto a needle with a longer cable ( I so love my interchangeable set ).

12.18. Finished the body; now on to the sleeves.

1.4. After two weeks of hibernating I picked it up today, because I needed to work on something which would engage me fully and not leave much time for my thoughts to wander. So that meant putting those easy peasy cowls I have been working on down and finally pick up stitches for the sleeves on the Even Flow.
I picked up stitches for one sleeve and completed all the short rows. Instead of w&t I used the twin stitch short row method. Note: When picking up the stitches you need to make sure that you space them evenly so the short rows won’t look wonky, but start and stop at roughly the same level front and back. I like this method of setting in sleeves. A great way to put sleeves in a vest or tank top as an afterthought and make it into a sweater. Also it feels like knitting the second half of a short row heel in toe up socks, so it’s very familiar.

1.7. Worked on the second sleeve cap today and started to work the sleeves two at a time.

For a long sleeve and with 72 sts at first round of sleeves I am decreasing every eight round until I have 46 sts left, then knit to 18.5 ( 17 at first) inches length including a 9 row rib at the cuff.

1.16. Finished the sleeves.

1.18. Seamed up the pockets.

1.20. Finished weaving in all yarn ends , added 1.5 inches to the sleeves and now it is blocking.

Waited till I could get some good shots on the mannequin at the shop; easier to show off the different details rather than in a selfie selfie

I LOVE this sweater !!!
