8-15-10 - what a fun experience at the Skagit County Fair ~ I received a 1st place ribbon and 2 rosettes ~ one for Best of Class and one for Best of Show ~ I was told the the judges couldn’t find one mistake (!) ~ that’s worth as much as the prizes ;)

Great design ~ great designer ~ fun kal ~ loved the yarn ~ learned a ton ~ my first ‘chart only’ lace pattern & lots of new techniques

thanks to Jodi for extra help with the nupps ~ my first row are ‘bigger and better’ than the rest will be (hehehe ~ a little private joke!)
Charts A thru C: done on US 1 (2.25mm) Harmony DP’s ~ tried to do myself in before getting off the DP’s! dropped a stitch (which I mistook for a really bad ladder for quite a few rows), missed a loop on one of my bobbles (looked like a little explosion!) and managed to pull my final DP needle out of the live stitches as I was switching to a 16” circular at the end of chart C ….. needless to say, the fact that I was able to correct all of these things makes me feel like a SUPERSTAR!!!!!! …if I could just get past the fact that I managed to make THAT MANY goofs this early in the KAL ;)
completed chart D ~ slow slow slow going but no huge mistakes ~ very proud! see one place where I split my yarn that bothers me that I’ll have to somehow repair later but I think when this is finished I may not even be able to find it ;)
completed chart E - no beads - since I’m such a wiz at nupps now (hehe) I decided to replace them with 3 stitch nupps - so my shawl how has 7 stitch, 5 stitch AND 3 stitch nupps ….. this is a beautiful lace project - I swear I’d be done sooner if I didn’t have to stop after every row to inspect\admire my work ;)
Chart F ~ the 5/3 stitches are probably one of the hardest things I’ve had to do ~ very very cool but so hard for a tight knitter, even with yarn that has a little give ….. the one row that has them took me about 3 hours (I struggled!!!) ~ finished chart F at the first stopping point (for many reasons ~ didn’t figure in the extra yarn I would be using by replacing beads with nupps ~ thought my yarn was red when I ordered online & PURPLE is not a favorite color ~ this will grace my dining table and I think a smaller circle will be better suited for my rectangular table)
finished Chart G and my Snow Queen is off the needles ~ I’ve never been so excited to block something! preblocking diameter is about 60cm and I’ll have to find an accurate scale to figure out how much yarn I used ….. time for a soaking!
blocked it measures just about 80cm! that’s with the smaller option on chart F, too! it’s gorgeous!
this is my ‘challenge myself’ project for 2010 ~ a Bad Cat Designs KAL based on EZ’s Circular Pi Shawl
