Notes

9.21.11 - Added some sub-par self portraits. I haven’t been able to photograph this sweater well as I’ve been wearing it too much! After all my complaining, this is my current favourite cardigan. Go figure. :)

8.25.11 - The only thing left to do with this sweater is sew on some buttons. Phew!

It’s.finally.finished. Holy cow.

Words of advice to anyone wanting to knit this sweater: if you loathe seaming and picking up stitches, this is NOT the pattern for you.

I also felt like I was flying by the seat of my pants most times, and following the pattern exactly as written was not an option. Be prepared to make modifications and reason things out in your brain if you decide to knit this.

I’m fairly happy with the finished item, but the process getting there was slightly painful. It also took me a year to complete, as the WIP was put into time out multiple times, for several weeks at a time. ;)

6.15.11 - Back and fronts complete. Started seaming them together and discovered that the fronts are longer than the back (armhole cast offs were done in the wrong spot, completely my fault due to lack of attention I suppose), so I’m going to have to rip back both fronts to about 10 rows before the armhole cast off point. I swear this sweater is going to be the bane of my existence!

Also, some of the pattern errors I listed in my notes have been corrected in the current version of the pattern.

2.19.11 - Going to get back at working on this. My mods/corrections will be posted soon :)

12/12 - Hibernating :/

10/2 - I’m getting frustrated with this pattern. There are several errors in the left front waist shaping section as well, and I’m curious as to why others who have knit this pattern have not mentioned this. It also appears as though some of the photos in the pattern are mirror images, which made it confusing when knitting the right and left fronts. (Is the left front actually the right front? With the pattern error it would appear so…..but it’s not.)

LEFT & RIGHT FRONT BAND mods:

I picked up and knit 124 stitches along each edge to compensate for additional length that I knit into the piece. {P2, K2 for both the RS and WS of the left front band, and K2, P2 for both the RS and WS of the right front band.}

Pattern error on the right front band: after picking up and knitting one WS row, continue in rib for 4 more rows (not 3) to end on a WS row

Buttonhole row (RS): Rib 11, {cast off 4 stitches, rib 13} to last 9 stitches, cast off 4 stitches, rib 5.

COLLAR mods:

When picking up stitches along the front and left neckline, I picked up 11 stitches, instead of 15 to make the look more uniform. 66 stitches total

SLEEVE mods:

I worked the sleeves in the round. I cast on 32 stitches and worked 9 increases. I then had the 50 stitches required in the pattern before the armhole cast off.

Cast off for armholes: The smallest size has an error for stitches remaining, it should read 40, not 44.

RIGHT FRONT mods:

Row 3 of waist decreases: K to 1 st before the next marker, place marker, p1, remove marker, p1, {C2R, p1} 3 times, p1, k to end.

After the raglan shaping and 18 (19, 19, 19, 19) stitches remain, for all sizes: On next row, removing markers as you come to them, cast off 9 stitches, work all stitches as set (instead of k to last 4 stitches), k2tog, k2. This keeps a more uniform look.

LEFT FRONT mods:

Row 3 of waist decreases: K to first marker, sm, p2, {C2L, p1} 3 times, remove marker, p1, replace marker, k to end.

Row 4 of waist decreases: P to first marker, sm, {k2, p2} 3 times, k1, k2tog, sm, p to end (1 st decreased)

Row 1 of waist increases: K to first marker, sm, p1, {C2R, p1} 3 times, p1, sm, k to end.

Row 2 of waist increases: P to first marker, remove marker, p1, place marker, {k2, p2} 3 times, kfb, sm, p to end.

After the cast off for the armholes, work 9 (5,3,0,0) rows even This modification to the even numbers in the pattern is necessary to end on a WS row before the start of the raglan shaping.

After the raglan shaping and 18 (19, 19, 19, 19) stitches remain, for all sizes: On next row, removing markers as you come to them, K2 SSK, work all stitches as set (instead of k to end). This keeps a more uniform look.

9/19 - Raglan shaping on back section almost complete, onto the front pieces this week.

BACK mods:

Row 3 of waist decreases: K to the first marker, sm, p2, {C2L, p1} 3 times, remove marker, p1, replace marker, k to 1 st before next marker, place marker, p1, remove marker, p1, {C2R, p1} 3 times, p1, sm, k to end.

Row 1 of waist increases: K to first marker, sm, p1, {C2R, p1} 3 times, p1, sm, k to next marker, sm, p2, {C2L, p1} 3 times, sm, k to end.

9/11 PM - Starting waist shaping section. I’m pretty sure there is an error in the pattern for the waist decreases and increases.

9/11 - CO smallest size and working on the back section first as the pattern is written.

9/10 - Gauge swatching, I’m getting about 4.25 sts/inch compared to the pattern gauge of 4 sts/inch. Row gauge is the same. This might be a lot easier than I thought……should work out perfectly as I am aiming to have a garment with a 34” bust.

I love the style of this sweater, but will be modifying it some for sizing….
