I have written many hat patterns, but for simplicity, I wanted to amalgamate a few into one basic/standby pattern that includes instructions for one basic hat that you can turn into…
A Beanie, A Winter hat, A Bobble Hat, A Earflap Hat, A Slouch, with stripes, or plain; with instructions for a bow, a flower, a sweet little corkscrew, or braided ties.
And I wanted it in all sizes, newborn to Adult so that I could keep referring to it easily when needed.
I took the most commonly used yarn - Worsted Weight (aran/10ply) with the most commonly used hooks for that yarn, and set to work, starting at the baby hats and working my way through to adult men and women.
I wanted ONE pattern, that could be used for all, just by changing the hook size, the stitch increase count, and the style.
The end result is this basic hat pattern, with instructions for many styles, that you can make in all dc or all hdc, and with embellishments included.
All the components are there, you just need your imagination to make any combination of style or colours.
Dimensions are given for sizes from newborn to adult, and the hooks needed to make them.
I also colour coded the stitch counts corresponding to sizes, and gave two options for a ribbed turn up brim.
My idea is this, grab ONE pattern
First: Pick your size.
Second: Pick the hook required for that size.
Third: Pick your style!
This pattern took a fair amount of work. I hope you enjoy using it as much as I enjoyed making it.
