A new snuh (security/bedtime blankie) for my kid, as her old one is shredded from love :)
Her only request was “colourful!” so I dug through the stash and found this handspun gradient skein. It is both soft and strong, thanks to the polwarth/silk blend, so should be nice to cuddle and hold up well.
I’d spun the yarn intending it to be used for a top-down shawl construction, so there’s a bit of yellow, a medium amount of green, then lots of purple which gradually darkens to charcoal. I browsed various Ravelry categories (blankets, shawls, afghan squares) until I found a nice lace design with a centre start that I could keep repeating until the yarn ends.
Edging was just a few rounds of garter stitch, then a “knit 2 together and pass back to the left needle, repeat” bind-off worked loosely.
It doesn’t sit flat because the yarn got thicker as I went along - from a heavy fingering in the centre up to a solid DK near the end. It dates back to my first year of spinning so I don’t feel too bad about the inconsistency! (Well, I do, but I try to be kind to myself.)
If I had realised it was that bad I would have started on larger needles and gradually traded down to compensate, but I didn’t. Blocking helped a lot and if it goes back to being wiggly, ah, it’s just for snuggling anyway!
