“The Message” by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Let your beanie have flavah.

9:59 PM - So my live blogging of this crochet adventure is coming to a close. I have finished the hat. It’s great. Really warm and looks cute in the color variation. I was a bit skeptical about closing the top, but it worked like a charm. My chaining in the back looks a little wonky because I carried the colors up each time. I’ll just break them next time, or just carry a longer yarn up. I am still debating lining this hat to make it really really warm, or just making it a fall/spring hat for my Chicago-dwelling cousin… I am slightly worried about the band being too loose. I’m not sure how big her head is.

7:36 PM - I went ahead with the color variation and for some strange reason, this is reminding me of Christmas. I might choose to line this with an old sweater and give it to my sweet cousin for Christmas. I have been loving this pattern. Puff Stitch is really fun!

Color pattern is: band & sc rows - brown
white
brown
white
brown
turquoise

and start again with white

It’s cool so far. Working this pattern in puff could be a great stash buster!

4:16 PM - I haven’t been crocheting on this ALL day, but I did finish the headband, which is brilliant in front loop only sc. I’m going to start the bobbles and I’m taking a risk by alternating a row of white and a row of brown bobbles. Hmmm. I was thinking of adding a row of turquoise bobbles, too. Not sure how that will work, but what is life without risks?

A note about SCing around the band.

Vickie says to work 72 (76) sc evenly around the band.

I came out with 83, so I just subtracted 76 from 83, which was 7, and divided 83 by 7 for roughly 12.

From here I knew I had to decrease 7 times in every 12th stitch.

It worked perfectly!! I have an extra row of SC, but I’m not worried about it for this pattern.

7-8-10 12:04 PM - It’s like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under.

I am wondering how this would look in Rebecca Pick’s Venice, which I have in brown and white. I am thinking of doing two colors… We’ll see.

I want to replicate it in Caron Simply Soft because I don’t normally use that yarn, but I can’t get that here in Mexico. However, when I go to the US, I’ll pick some up. :)
