Love this doll pattern - going to make a redhead this time.
Really enjoying making my second curly headed doll ♥
You can see a faint shadow of a smile which I put in and took out - maybe I will put it back in again, we’ll see.
Top is based on the dress pattern, but knit with an opening in the front for buttons. Button band and sleeve edging added at the end.
Skirt is loosely based on the stitch counts and instructions for the dress in combination with the skirt from this pattern. Unfortunately I didn’t take notes on the exact steps I took for the skirt or the top - I need to be more methodical about doing that!
Shoes:
Sole of shoes made from Brian Baby Shoes pattern (rounds 1-6) in size 3-6 months. Using 3.25 mm crochet hook, entirely in white, crochet rounds 1-3 as written. Round 4 hdc around rather than sc around. Rounds 5 and 6 as written.
Place slipped stitch from end of round 6 onto US 3 double pointed needle. increase one stitch by backwards loop. Through the back leg of the crochet stitches, pick up and knit 13 stitches. Switch back to crochet hook, slip stitch into the next stitch, 3 sc, 3 hdc, 3 dc, 3 hdc, 3 sc, slip stitch into the next stitch. Using a second double pointed knitting needle pick up and knit 14 stitches, increase one stitch by backwards loop. 47 stitches (30 knit stitches and 17 crochet stitches). You could also do short rows instead of the line of crochet stitches to make the toe curve taller, but I was being lazy.
Purl three rounds - on the first round picking up and purling 17 stitches across the crocheted stitches at the front of the shoe through the back leg of each stitch. Cut white yarn.
Shoe tongue:
Switch to colored (aqua) yarn and working only on the 17 stitches at the front of the shoe, knit 12 rows in SS slipping the first stitch in each row.
row 13: sl 1, (k2tog) x2, k7, (ssk) x2, k1 (13 sts)
row 14: purl
row 15: sl 1, k2tog, p7, ssk, p1 (11 sts)
row 16: purl
row 17:knit
row 18: b/o purlwise
Shoe upper:
With colored (aqua) yarn, and starting at the right side stitches closest to the toe of the shoe, cast on 4 stitches, knit across 30 stitches on the double pointed needles, cast on 4 stitches - 38 total stitches.
rows 2-14, knit, slipping the first stitch of each row.
row 15: sl 1, (k2tog) x2, k3, k2tog, (k2, k2tog)x2, k2, (k2tog, k2)x2, k2tog, k3, (k2tog)x2, k1 (28 sts)
row 16: purl
row 17: b/o purlwise.
Upper edging:
slip stitch a line of white crochet stitches starting from the right side edge of the upper that is nearest the toe, across the back of the upper and down the other side. Weave in white yarn ends.
Using the aqua tails of yarn from the upper and the tongue, overlap the four cast-on stitches on either side of the upper over the first four (and last four) stitches of the tongue at the edge of the white toe and sew down.
Weave in all remaining ends.
Chain two shoe laces, in white yarn, to desired length and lace through the upper on either side of the white edging to criss-cross and tie the shoe closed. I did not make holes for the shoe laces but found that using a knitting needle to create a slight opening to pull the lace through was helpful.
