This is the most difficult thing I have ever knit. It’s addictive, but does require careful attention.

Note on yarn - the thicker fingering was great, the light fingering was more likely to get knit together or dropped. I didn’t have any single ply in this project - I liked the twisted fingering I used, not sure if single ply would be easier or more difficult.

I made many many mistakes - dropping stitches, miscounting, etc. I found I had to knit in complete quiet. By the end, it was straightforward, but still required complete concentration.

Feb. 2017 - I picked this back up with 8 repeats done. Doing 7 more

41-stitch swatch. I now see where I am likely to screw up.

Note - the extra stitch switches sides. It is at the end (first section on WS rows 2-8) then switches to the beginning section (rows 11 to 15). I found it easiest to remove the markers during row 11 and re-insert them on row 1, with the 21 stitch section at the beginning - that is the correct set-up for the Yarn Over Berlin instructions (below).

Ended up with Teal/Gray combo:
Mal Sock Natural (D) and Persia (teal/gray mix) (C)
Indigodragonfly North Royalton (teal tonal) (A) and Cumberbachanal (dark gray tonal) (E)
Miss Babs Katahdin (light gray) (B)

The 2 colours that spend the least amount of time together are A and C. This dictated that my teal and the teal/gray mix are those colours.
A - teal (draws your eye as it is bright)
B - light gray
C - teal/gray mix (Persia)
D- natural (this is what draws your eye the most)
E - dark gray

Here are the stitch counts you should have on your 41-stitch swatch:
After row 2: 57 sts
After row 4: 101 sts
After row 6: 101 sts
After row 8: 57 sts
After row 10: 41 sts

Knit through Row 11 with the same color as row 10, then bind off on row 12 (per Betsynotliz) to make it look more like the cast on edge, then bind off knitwise to match the beginning.

Unblocked: 14 x 53
Blocked: 15 x 57

The yarn usage is based on what I had left - approx. 50 grams of each. I expect some of the skeins were overweight, as the difference in yardage doesn’t make sense, although I didn’t weigh my yarn at the beginning to see.
