November 14: Okay I have been asked a few times about the modification to the edging:
Please bare in mind I lost the pattern part way through and was too lazy to print another copy so
I knit 12 segments/wings - leaving 15 live stitches on the needles at the end of each segment.
At the end I had (12x14) 165 stitches plus the last 90 stitches of the final segment.
At the outer edge - using backward looping casting on 13 stitches and using the knitted on border technique
started the cables as follows: Make sure the right side of the shawl is facing up when you start these rows
Row 1: k1, k4, p2, k4, p1, k1tog with one live stitch from lefthand needle, turn
Row 2: slip 1 purlwise, k1, p4, k2, p4,k1
Row 3: k1, c2f, p2, c2f, p1, k1tog iwth one live stitch from lefthand needle turn,
Row 4, slip 1 purlwise, k1, p4, k2, p4, k1
Repeat until all live stitches have been knitted into the cable border…..
c2f - slip 2 onto cable needle hold at front, k2, k2 from cable needle
Blocking: Using the cable neck edge as a straight line - (rather than blocking in a circle) block the cable straight, then pull the tips of the segments down as far as they will go and pin tightly. It will create the scalloped edge.

Now that TBD is blocking - I think I will change the name to Venus Fly Trap - because that is what it reminds me of, when I see it laid out and blocking!!

hmm this project has been in hibernation for a while - but lately I got a move on with it.
Mini Mochi yarn colours worked well with the design - except when I had to get more yarn and the same colour but different dye lot (I know rookie mistake) but the colour lengths were different and I had to rewind the balls because the sequence of the colours was different. I decided to add a cable to the top of the shawl and am now trying to decide if I have enough yarn leftover to add the same cable to the ends of the wings.
I knit 12 segments as I needed a longer shawl for me.

oh boy I have a mini moochi thing going on right now - between Kiera’s blanket and this project - I made the mistake of going to needle emporium and came away with two skeins of the new colours of mini moochi - (oh and if I am honest three other colours too) but this colour was really intriguing since it is sooo not my normal colour choice.
I also do not (normally) like garter stitch, but after 3 Colour Affections and Kiera’s blanket, I have to now say I like garter stitch when working with colour affects!!!!
I am loving how this wingspan is forming right now - and thinking I need another skein of the yarn - and will have to see if Julie has one more.
