Notes

I made the Starry, Starry Night baby blanket for my first future grand baby, however I have a daughter and a son! So, I am making this one too and then whichever of my children that is first to have a baby, they get to choose which blanket they want.

This was so much fun to crochet. I loved the way it turned out and am very happy with it. The pattern is very easy to follow and the magazine has good photo’s.

I used a smaller G hook for the elephant’s trunk and the giraffe’s antlers and spots. I also used my own method for the giraffe’s mane and used loops instead.

I suggest sewing your house and elephant and giraffe on to the ark before sewing on your port holes to get them just right.

I also liked the wrong side of some of the pieces…elephant’s head and the ark. I felt the ark looked better on the wrong side. This was just my preference.

I also used different colors of yarn for the fish and giraffe as AC Moore didn’t have those yarn colors specified in the pattern.

I love this TLC Cotton Plus yarn as it is very soft, easy to work with and very drape able!

I also added a little rain cloud which fit this project perfectly!

I finished both edges with a row of single crochet.

SEWING ON PIECES:
3rd photo from the top shows the backside of mine after all animals have been sewn on.

I have been asked how I sewed the pieces on without them showing on the backside, the stitches that is. Well, first sew the elephant, house and giraffe to the ark, then to the blanket. I used the cream color to sew around everything on the cream part and then I used the water color yarn to stitch around anything sewed on that part of the blanket.

On the ark I used cream up and around half of the ark and then all of the animals and back down to the other half of the ark. Then I used the darker ocean color to sew the bottom half of the ark on.

You can see in the close up of the bird that I used the cream to sew it on. It looks from the front like I used the blue, but I used the cream. This way nothing shows on the backside of the blanket. Hope that helps.
