3-31-14: Swatching on size 6 needles to celebrate (or more aptly, commiserate) the last day of Malabrigo March. I won’t need this sweater before fall but I’m going to get it started so I can carry it around to work on in waiting rooms and meetings to get a headstart before I need it.
Great video for provisional cast on with a crochet hook here.
Grrrr…I liked the swatch on 4’s better and cast on and was off. But a bit in I realized that my start was a distinctly different color from my swatches, which were knit from different skeins. So I’ve frogged the whole thing and am going to look at the skeins in the light of day to see if I perhaps started out with just one aberrant skein or if I’m going to have to alternate skeins and, sigh, weave in all of those ends.
Nov 2014: after not touching this since March I picked it up this week. My gauge is awful. I’m getting about 4/5th of the size I need but I really like how the fabric looks. I’ve finished the back and one front but I’m going to have to frog it again and do some knitfu math to figure out what size to knit :(
I’ve figured this out. I can get fabric I like on size 6 needles with a gauge of 18.5 st/4”. Now I need to figure out if I want positive ease. I’ll probably move up and knit a size 36.
