Formerly Grande Disappointment Hat. Hat top frogged and now it is a cowl!
What a grande disappointment. I made the hat per the instructions, as far as I know, and the hat is way too big. Was only slightly big upon completion, but this winter, a season after making the hat, it is about 1 1/2 times too big. I’ve since learned that alpaca fibers grow over time, relaxing and stretching out. It sounds like this is rather common knowledge? Can’t understand why a pure alpaca (not blended with something sturdier) would be recommended for the hat, especially given the sideways ribbed, bound-to-grow-anyway design. I’m in the process of frogging the top and finishing the edge to make a Sideways Grande Cowl. Yes, folks, it’s THAT BIG now.
The alpaca, however, is luxuriously soft and warm and will no doubt do the trick keeping my neck warm.
