This is my favourite bag design for shopping bags.
I love the packaway aspect.
I keep my own one in my purse and use it all the time.
I often work with op shop purchased yarns.
The challenge is to create something pleasing with a lucky dip colour palette.
Cee loves green so i picked that for her. However it’s very right and came with the same yarn in dark brown. There wasn’t enough of the green for a whole bag so I mixed the colours.
The pop of the lime green with the brown reminded me of 1960s fashion so I decided to play with that and add a Mary Quant style Daisy.
I think it works. I hope Cee likes it.
I modified the bag pattern to work with the heavier yarn. It’s a bit of a squeeze to fit the bag in the base pouch. If I use thicker yarns again I’ll make the pouch a bit bigger.
I only went up to 11 chain with my increases on the net rows, then back down to seven for the divided top pieces of the bag. I had to modify the spacing, number of loops and decreasing into the straps as well.
I’m happy with the size of the bag.
It’s a bit smaller and not so wide. I’m thinking it will be easier to fill.
My one, which followed the original pattern, tends to slump open until it is filled and picked up by the straps.
