2014304 - Done! I used Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off, which worked beautifully :) I managed to use up all but aboug 4 feet of the yarn - Yay!! The first two pictures are true to the actual color of the yarn. The cowl is warm and snuggly, and on its way to a homeless shelter. I may well make myself a cowl, but out of something more pleasant to knit, and not quite so screamingly pink :)
20140303 - Wow, I’m getting close to done with the knitting. I need to think about how to bind this sucker off! I sewn bind-off would be stretchy, but absolutely vile to attempt with this yarn.
20140216 - 20 stitch 8 row gague swatch, 10.25” around and 2.5” tall. That’s a total of 160 stitches, which used about 8 yards of yarn.
So, if I cast on 80 stitches, I’ll be able to get about 25 rows out of this skein, making a cowl about 41” around, and not quite 8” wide. That should be a pleasant size to wear, and fill the circular needle nicely :)
Aaand actually casting on came out a bit differently than planned :) I used a varient long-tail cast on (http://www.eskimimimakes.com/2012/11/tutorial-alternating...) and only had 70 stitches once I got to the very end of the tail. Works for me! Now that it’s just knit every stitch, it’s great fun - I’ve already knit 3 rounds :)
20140215 - A girlfriend gave this yarn to me after attempting to make a baby gift from it. It really is horrible to work with - even worse than Lion Brand’s Home Spun, without the saving grace of being really pretty. Baby Clouds is soft, though, and quite warm.
I need a portable project, and there are plenty of folks who need warm clothes, so I’ll make this up into a cowl. Right now (2/15/14) I’m knitting a 20 stitch swatch via magic loop on a 29” #15 circular needle. I want to calculate the gague I’m knitting, to make sure I cast on the right number of stitches to knit a cowl in the round. Ideally I’ll use up the entire skein for a cowl than can be pulled up as a hood, or left around the neck as a scarf. I’ll calculate the cast on number and all that once I measure the gague swatch. Then I’ll cast on and have rows and rows of stockingette to carry around with me to keep my hands busy :)
