72 stitches on US 1. Decreased toe to 12 sts on each needle.
Knit sock to 10.5” from cuff to beginning of toe decreases. Knit toe decreases and measured in to 2” less than my total foot length (my total foot length is 9.5”, so I measured in to 7.5” from the tip of the toe), and put a marker so I knew what row to pick up stitches around and where to snip the stitch.
Followed lemknitcrochet’s true afterthought heel tutorial, and I have no holes in the corners! Knit 1 stripe before beginning heel decreases. Decreased heel to 14 sts on each needle before Kitchnering.

One thing I did that I wouldn’t do again is I tried to be smart and weave in my ends at the heel point as I knit, so I wouldn’t have to go back and do that, and that didn’t work so well. It’s a little tight where I knitted in the ends, so next time I just wouldn’t do that. Problem solved. :) I’m still not a superfan of the afterthought heel (I prefer the way heel flap/gusset construction fits my foot), but if I have stripey yarn where I really don’t want to break up the stripes, or I’m trying to use all the leftovers, I’ll do this heel again, for SURE! :)
