Notes

4/20/09 - Okay, I started this project forever and a day ago. And I finished knitting it up forever and a day ago. But I’ve never sewn it together - hell, it wasn’t until last month that I even ordered the frame for it. But this year will be the year when it’s completed!

6/13/10 - This makes me a bit sad. It’s still at the bottom of my knitting chest, with all the pieces separated. The fact is, I don’t like the way this turned out. In fact, I hate the way the front turned out. The other pieces I’m mostly okay with, but the front just looks gimpy to me. It’s crumply and wonky and doesn’t lie flat and worst of all, it’s fuzzy. Fuzzy fuzzy fuzzy. Like, mohair exploding fuzzy. It drives me nuts. I’ve tried shaving it, I’ve tried trimming it, nothing works. I think it’s just the yarn - Lite Lopi is a fuzz-ful yarn to start with and I think felting it just brought out that part of its nature. So my plan, at some point, is to buy some KP Wool of the Andes, knit up the front in that, felt it, and see how that turns out. I know, it seems like pure madness to redo the front all over again, but I just can’t bring myself to finish it like this. The way I see it, that will be the test. If I work up the front without screwing it up (aka, cutting off the colours at the end of every freakin row, the way I did the first time), felt it, and still hate it, it just wasn’t meant to be. Then I’ll be able to get rid of it and move on with my life. But at least I’ll have given it a second chance.

1/19/11 - Last week, I ordered the yarn I needed from KnitPicks and it arrived. This week, I decided to do something with the old front. I didn’t want to look at it and keep thinking about how much this project had sucked when I had finished felting that front and seen how horrible it was. I wanted to think about how awesome this bag was going to be when I finished the front CORRECTLY. So today, I went to Target and bought a cat bed. Then I came home, sliced up the front into strips, and handstitched them all around the outside of the bed. I’m not only happy - I’m over the moon! I am so impressed with how awesome this looks, how special the bed is now, how gorgeous it is. It really is something and it actually makes me excited for just how great this bag be when I DO finish it for real.
For now, kitten has a new bed. Kitten is a happy cat.
