Notes

I wanted to knit Aestlight but it takes too much yarn. At the perfect time Gudrun came up with this gorgeous option that uses one skein of STR lightweight! Perfect marriage in my mind. So hard to get the true red with my point and shoot. I have grand plans to wear this on Valentine’s day -- my favorite holiday -- and present Christian his Christmas scarf (slash now V-day scarf) at the same time!

HOLY CRAP HOW MANY TIMES CAN I MISREAD SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS FOR ZIGZAG LACE?!

I used bigger needles since they were what I had on hand. To compensate for this, I omitted the last garter ridge repeat. I also planned to omit some of the zigzag lace, but when I realized I would have enough yarn after all, I modified it so I wouldn’t need to rip. So I have 2 rows k2tog direction, 2 rows ssk direction, and then 2 more in the k2tog direction. This will make sense if you have the pattern! I ended up with enough to do the picot bind off.

One note: I considered not switching needle sizes when recommended (it’s kind of a pain in the butt), but after trying it with just the 5.0mm, I ended up following the pattern. No one else mentioned this in their project notes -- but I’m sure more people than just me were tempted to skip that seemingly extra step!

All finished and blocking. I used a pin in every other picot and I just barely had enough! Love love LOVE this color -- I’m glad I bought it, and extra glad I waited so long to use it.

FO pictures! We were lucky enough to have some sun at Vashon today. I took pictures in my “front yard” -- which requires some creative use of the self-timer. I love this shawl, this yarn, this pattern (though I doubt I’d use STR for lace more complicated than this -- it’s too sproingy, for lack of a better word, too rounded and heavy).
