Notes

This was a creepy fun knit. Very cleverly conceived.

You can avoid a number of the “join yarn” directions by leaving long tails of yarn (when you cut the yarn) to use on the return trip back.

I changed to American size 7 needles (instead of 6) and a full worsted weight after reading from several knitters on Ravelry that this turned out a tad narrow. It needed to fit a pumpkin-headed person (me). It fits great! That larger needle size and gauge threw off the row count. Anne-Marie Dunbar gives directions in number of rows instead of number of inches, so I had to adjust some on that account.

If I were making this again, I would make the eyes another set of rows “taller” (using the same two row scrap yarn technique the designer uses for the horns). Also, I had to pull together the space between the eyes because mine came out too wideset for my face. I also overstitched the eyes, to open them up a bit.

Anne Marie has a VERY helpful set of additional instructions for the ears on her blog. Those instructions are a bit hard to follow in the pattern, so be sure to check out:
http://thingsandideas.wordpress.com/2009/06/05/573/ My ears didn’t come out exactly as shown in the designer’s photo, but I’m quite satisfied!
