Notes

Dec 13: Today I started it.So far the doilies I made have max 20-25 rounds. But this one has got 60 rounds and going to really challenging for me.
I want to do this for a long time but kept postponing it. Now that I have started, let me see how long it takes for me to complete. In my mind, I have kept the deadline as Apr 2012. I should be having enough time.
Dec 16:

Quick Initial rows.. I’m in Row 16 today.
I am not doing any other craft other than crocheting this doily. I was tempted to add day by day updates but that would be so silly n childish.. :-)
I’m happy that the doily is coming big(my first/second knitting cotton doily) and the stiffness in it.

I ran out of thread and I’m in Round 26.It is big enough now itself I am imagining how big it will be when I finish the Round 60.Oh my god!!
Those V-Stitch rounds were not that interesting but the look is good.
I donno when I can go shopping to start it again..
Hope I can start it again on New Year.

Jan 4 2012
I bought thread yesterday and I bought 3 balls just to make sure that I don’t run out of thread again.
It seemed a long gap between but it is just less than 10 days. I was missing crocheting in between and
now I am in Row 30.
Though I am actually 50% considering the number of rows, the circumference increases by each row and so obviously I have more than 80% pending. The time taken Vs Rows is exponential I guess. When I finish this doily, probably I would have found out the progression also( how it grows mathematically) :-)

On I forgot to mention, I changed from 0.85 hook to 1.75 hook. The current one is more comfortable for the thread thickness. And this was also yesterday’s purchase at commercial street, surya emporium.

I’m in Row 34(forever..) and very tired as it is not coming to completion. Also it is frilling in the edges. Hope it will become ok as I proceed.

I am going to shelve it for some time. I got some new silk from SilkIndian and I’m starting a shawl so this will be after that.
***********************************
Finished the shawl and back to the BMC, hope to finish atleast till 40 rounds before Jan ends.

In Row 41 successfully.I will be glad if I finish this. The doily is pretty but it is taking lots of time. In 30 mins, I am able to do only a half round.

********************

Completed 42 Rows and still frilling in the edges. In a dilemma whether to continue it or stop it.To clear my doubt, I blocked the doily and found the frills are less and does not look bad. So will continue crocheting the rest of the rounds.

Oct 20:
Never thought it was this long. Almost 6 months did not even attempt it.
Started this again for the UFO Brainstorming CAL/KAL.
I made 2 more rounds and then making a picot edging by myself. I’m not following the pattern as I’m missing few stitches and so ripped it back.
I’ll do it again with crochet #20 thread later. Now want to finish this with less mistakes.

Oct 29:
Its finished and blocked. My method of blocking is not a good one but it is the one which I can do. I can’t use pins at home and I have no guest bedroom to use either.( I have my in-laws at home, and using pins in their bed doesn’t sound good to hear)

So I spread the damp doily in a bedspread down and slowly iron on medium setting and pull the picots. My fingers are sore by pulling the thick anchor knitting cotton thread.

I used almost 6-7 balls for it costing 80Rs.(Bcoz I bought it from Surya Emporium, no clue why they charge more than the MRP.On asking, they say, the label is old and the price is revised.)

Now after blocking it is in the wardrobe. I have no place to display this beauty and it is too thick to be draped anywhere. It is heavily starched(my mistake) and looks crisp.

Like they say, War to end all the wars, this is the doily to end all the doily love of mine.
