I wanted to make a winter capelet for a bunny and came across this sweet pattern. The eyelets are a delicate and beautiful detail. It’s a well-written pattern with pictures and helpful information.

I used a 2.5mm needle and fingering weight yarn. The original cast on of 41 stitches was a bit too wide for the bunny. I reduced the cast on to 31 and followed the pattern through row 13 omitting two 5 stitch panels throughout. Next I did a decrease row ( Row 18) and purled one row. On the next row, I switched to white for the trim. I knit 5 garter stitch rows and did a knit bind off on row 6 of the trim.

I followed the directions for the crochet collar in Julie William’s Textured Dresses Pattern (linked above). I did a treble crochet (US) using fingering weight yarn and a 2.75 hook. To make the collar a bit deeper.

Rather than block, I lightly steam pressed the shawl which also helped flatten the collar. A button hidden beneath the collar is used for a closure.

I used lace weight alpaca yarn to embroider the snowflakes. It’s more of an ivory which gives more contrast.

The neckline was perfect with my mods but the capelet was a bit snug. I plan to try this capelet again using a 31 stitch cast on to keep the neck small, increase to 41 stitches then follow the pattern as written. Again, I will keep it shorter in length for the bunny.
