Notes

Mods: Used super bulky yarn. CO 36 stitches. 4-stitch garter-stitch band along the bottom of the hat. Added 4 short rows in the stockinette section (eight stitches in from each side.) On the last two rows, I increased (k front and back) on the two middle stitches each time so I ended up with 40 stitches.

Kitchener grafted back instead of seaming. Picked up 4 stitches from the edge to start chin strap instead of casting on and attaching it later.

To finish the chin strap, I k2tog twice, turned, then k2tog to end in a point. I used one large navy blue button.

I only have one problem with this project: When I did the short rows, I messed up somehow on the wrapping, so on one side of the hat, you can see the wrapped stitches fairly obviously. I don’t know if that’s something that can be fixed with blocking. I may embroider something to cover it.

Apart from that, This is the best-looking kitchener graft I’ve ever done! I like how it interrupted the garter stitch, although one could do it so that it doesn’t.

This is such an easy and fast project (with the super bulky yarn). I think I just may do more!

1/16/13 - I decided to embroider a few imperfect snowflakes, using leftover Paton’s Classic yarn (from my Gap-tastic cowl)
