sock 1 - 39.3g

foot - 46 rounds long

  • knit on one circular needle
  • use markers when joining front sts to back
  • high instep long foot so work gusset decreases every other row.

13 apr - oh yay, got those sts picked up to do the ribbing. Worked 5 rounds.
26 mar - toe grafted.
25 mar - finished gusset decrs last night and length of foot this evening.
19 feb - back and heel of sock 2 done. Need to reduce from 46 sts by 14.
13 feb - first sock done
12 feb - i’m ribbing! have done about 1.5” so far. will got to 2”and then do jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind-off.
3 feb - have been knitting on these the past couple of nights. Finished foot of first sock. Still have 69g of yarn left so could ostensibly add some length to the leg too. Might check how long my smorgasbord socks are and take it from there.
3 jan 2018 - doing gusset decreases and a bit sick of striping so might just use one ball from here.
1 jan 2018 - time flies! Have completed leg tube and the first decrease row. Following high instep-long foot directions, so worked a round even before decr row and will work it again every other row. Pattern continues to be interesting. I think I may have knit a row too many on the front leg at the very top bc I had only 3 rows of my last stripe when I finished the leg tube. I just knit the fourth row for good measure. Don’t really need all the extra needles to make these, ive managed fine on one circular. Have also at some point I think lost track of my A and B ball. By the end of the back leg/heel, both balls were pretty much in the same place anyway. There would be, potentially, one less end to weave in afterwards, well, two actually where you break the yarn and start another ball. So I just stuck w the ball I was using after the first (second?) front leg row. And that’s where perhaps I actually knit one too many rows in that colour. Took me three attempts to get the front leg right, need markers otherwise I wasn’t knitting far enough across.
25 dec 2017 - hmm, curious socks. I cast on 70 sts using Judy’s magic cast-on (ok, I cast on 70 and 71 bc I can’t count). The pattern seems to call for a cast on that delivers 70sts (which you decr to 69) and then 69sts when you remove the provisional cast on. The instructions don’t specify which provisional cast on to use though. If you use jmco then you could just cast on 69 and dispense w the p2tog. Anyway … also curious is that the recommended yarn is zauberball and the instructions are to wind off half of it. You shouldn’t wind off zauberball, you knit it from the outside of the ball as it is. So I had to reach inside the skein and, like extracting an artichoke heart, pull the centre of the ball out.
