add 10 rows (5 garter ridges) before starting on thumb gusset

14 apr - one mitt completely finished. Ripped out the grafting and the ribbing on the wrong sized needles and knit 8 rounds of ribbing on 3.25mm and did normal cast off. Likewise thumb, five rows of rib and normal cast off.
12 apr - finished 5 rounds 1x1 ribbing on both mitts but appear to have used another 3.5mm needle instead of 3.2mm. grafted to cast off on one of the mitts but not entirely happy w outcome. might need to rip ribbing, redo on 3.25mm needle but do 8 rows, plus work 3(?) rows of double knit on 3mm needle before grafting. Also completed one thumb. Appears to be an error in the pattern (how can that be, it’s five years old!?) - you put 7sts and then 7sts on hold for the thumb, then pick up 4 and are supposed to end up w 16. It adds up to 18. Anyway, I worked ssk k2tog across the picked up sts = 16.
11 apr - finished both hands (7 garter ridges)
9 apr - finished thumb gusset and placed thumb sts on spare thread. i cast on 2 sts w backward loop instead of casting on 2 sts with spare thread
7 apr - completed 37 ridges before thumb gusset is to start. But, not long enough. Add 5 more garter ridges? (yes)
4 apr - have completed 28 garter st ridges. no more decreases. next pattern change happens after 37 ridges.
22 mar - ribbing complete
21 mar 2018 - mitts cast on, have knit one round of ribbing.
