Kettled The entire dye process happens in the dyepot (kettle) all manipulation occurs with the whole skein in the pot with the dye.
Snicklefritz Yarns
BFL Fingering in Nudie Gnome
My entry for the “Kettle Dyed” category is “Nudie Gnome” According to Huygen et al. 1 , Gnomes would rather be without their pants than their hats. Looks like our Gnome friends forgot something when they left the house…
This colorway uses natural dyes and non-toxic mordants which are eco-friendly, sustainable and fair-trade. The original inspiration for this colorway came from fellow Raveler CrisisKnitter who thought that a locally inspired colorway would be fun to create for Sock Summit. The colors are also very similar to “Rainbow Sherbet”, the winner of the Portland Rose Society’s competition in 2008.
Snicklefritz Yarns will have a limited edition set of 15-20 of these at Sock Summit in booth #505. It will be available in our luscious 80/20 superwash BFL and nylon blend in fingering weight as well as a small amount in a merino/cashmere sock yarn. We will also be happy to take orders at the show should you wish to have this particular colorway in any of our other base yarns.
Snicklefritz Yarns is headed by Raveler “Nannysknits” who specializes in playing with the chemistry of the dyeing process to create fun and unusual colorways that don’t flash or pool. The company is also committed to using eco-friendly dyes. When Snicklefritz Yarns’ isn’t in the lab at work (she’s does Nanotech in her day job, she’s in the studio doing the fun chemistry. :)

Wool Candy
Meringue Merino Sock in Microbrew
One of my two entries in the Ravelry/Sock Summit Dye for Glory contest in the Kettle Dyed category.
This colorway is partially inspired by the Sock Summit logo. I wanted to do a colorway with the warm colors from the logo, and one with the cooler colors.
I’ve heard Portland is well known for its beer, produced by small breweries, so here’s Microbrew!
Lager, red ale, and (my favorite) stout blend in a sampler platter of tasty brews. I love this one!
I’m so thrilled by the response to this color – Thank you, everyone!
I will be doing one more session of this colorway, then discontinuing it in honor of Sock Summit ‘09. If you’d like to reserve a skein, please pm me and I’ll reserve a skein for you in my Etsy shop.
The cut off for reserves will be this Friday, 8/14. They will be dyed up next week, and in the shop by next Friday, 8/21. Thanks!

"A Day At (TM) Powell's" Yummy 2-ply Sock and Baby Yarn in A Day At (TM) Powell's
This colorway has been developed for the 2009 Sock Summit’s “Dye for Glory” Contest. My booth number is 414-416.
This yarn is a play on the old joke, “What’s Black and White and Read/Red all over?” And also relates to the fact that lots of folks are saying that they would like to spend a day at a Powell’s bookstore while they are in Portland.
This is one of the most fun yarns I have knitted in a while!!
This yarn is part of a grouping of kettle dyed yarns that generally create random patterns in the knitting of socks, and other garments due to the manner in which it was dyed. These are non-repeatable in nature. What is available is all there will be in the specific colorway. We are using the title of “A Day at” (TM) to denote this style of dyeing.

the usual in ned's ruby trout
being the foodie (and yarnie) that i am, my special sock summit colorways had to have a foodie bent with some authentic portland flavor. this one is a shout out to ned ludd’s ruby trout.
kettle dyed in deep sea blue, green and teal with some ruby spots and speckles.
this yarn will be available exclusively at the loopy ewe booth and sock summit, and after that it might just make an appearance or two at the numma numma shop.

Light Brown Hare
Jackrabbit 4oz in Crispin's Day
Immersion dyed the Jackrabbit base the way I usually do (resists and multiple passes through different colored dye baths), this is for Dye for Glory. :D Pam of Yarny Goodness will be bringing some of my yarn to Sock Summit, so I pulled out a last minute entry. I have two more skeins of it setting, in the 6oz put up.
This yarn is perfect for this kind of deep and varied colorway. The high twist and sheen really make the colors glow.
I happen to love it. The name is a reference to the St Crispin’s Day speech from Henry V. St. Crispin is a patron saint of cobblers, tanners, and leatherworkers (and bikers, apparently), thus the many shades of brown.
The pictures are in order. The first picture has #1 on top and #2 on the bottom. The detail following and then the open hank picture are for #1, and then the second detail and open hank picture are for #2. Then the last picture is the same 2 hanks turned over. #1 is still the one on top.
These are not reskeined.

Anzula
Superwash Merino & Nylon in 1 Red Shoe
I have perfected my semi-sold red sock yarn for Sock Summit 09. The name is inspired by my friend Becky’s little red Miata. This yarn is a true red, which is quite hard to obtain and the photos do it no justice. It is entered in the kettled category. You can find this yarn in the Anzula booth, 405.
KarinMT
Periwinkle Sheep watercolors II in crapshoot
This is the colorway “crapshoot”, dedicated to the Yarn Harlot for the Sock Summit 2009. I am submitting it to the Dye for Glory Contest.
The name is in reference to what Stephanie Pearl-McPhee says about gauge sometimes. Some dyes are a total crapshoot, too. :)
In the photos, the yellowish color is actually closer to a chartreuse green. As I was photographing the skein after re-skeining it, the sun came out and lightened the colors. The whole skein is a mix of eggplant purple, some greys and mauves, and chartreuse. It was kettle dyed.
My booth number at the Sock Summit ‘09 is 800.

Superwash Sock in Willamette Valley
This yarn will be at Sock Summit at the Knit-A-Bit booth (I believe #808). Sock Summit, as we all know, is in Oregon and I spent three years in Eugene, just a few hours south of Portland. This colorway was inspired by the perfect summers in the Willamette Valley - lush green forests, bright blue skies, clear cold rivers and streams and so much sun! It was heavenly.
CuriousCreek
Soft & Luscious Wasonga in Meditations on Mulberry
Curious Creek Fibers ~ Wasonga 100% Superwash Merino Wool ~ I paint in my kettles to achieve an effect that is both semi-solid and a saturated watercolor.
My husband is a Charles Mingus fan and while I was developing this colorway he was listening to Meditations on Mingus, a compilation of musicians interpreting his music.
I decided to interpret what a mulberry leaf might taste like to a silk worm and I came up with this color combination.
This colorway will be sold at Sock Summit by Morgaine Wilder of Carolina Homespun and will be available at Curious Creek Fibers retailers in Fall 2009.

Becoming Art
Cielo sport in Amor
“Amor” …. Spanish for Love. I could not think of a better way to express the emotion behind the art of knitting then “Love”. Creativity, inspiration, generosity, perseverance. I love knitting and all things that come with it.
“Amor” is my submission for the Kettle dyed category. Several shades of berry with a bit of Mocha all layered together in one pot create this rich and prismatic colorway. Under each strand lies several colors, each blending and marrying effortlessly.
Available in several yarn weights and bases (and fiber too!) in booth #415 under Becoming Art.
also available for preordering on my etsy Friday evening
Knit Fit Knitting

CeallachKnits
Ceallach Dyes Sunny Feet Summits Series in Hood
The Sunny Feet Summit Series was inspired by a memory of the Portland area in 1994 when I climbed Mt St Helens. I have distinct memories of seeing the local mountains from St Helens, including Rainier, Hood, Adams, Jefferson. I and not completely sure that all are visible from there, but there have since been other trips to the Northwest in which the mountains have figured prominently.
Every skein in the Summits Series is focused on one of these mountains, filling the desire for a number of colorways that are also more masculine and relate to camouflage.
Hood is a Green, Charcoal, and brown colorway to reflect memories of the mountain seen from a distance and up close with family. It was dyed using a solar dyed kettle process using low impact dyes.
This yarn will be available at Fibers Grass Valley booth #305.
