This simple, easy-to-crochet cowl was designed to use up leftovers from the Azul-Verde Mountain Scarf. The only stitches you need to know to make this one-sitting piece are chains, single crochet, double crochet, slip stitch, and reverse single crochet for the rope borders. Two rows of back-loop-only stitches outline the mesh rows and help give this soft hemp piece a touch of geometric structure.

As pictured this cowl is fairly snug around the neck with an 80-stitch circumference. But the pattern is easily altered by adding (or subtracting) multiples of two. For a loose and drapey cowl, try 90 or 100 stitches (plus 3 for the initial dc and ch-1).
