Skirts and dresses are what my little girl loves wearing the most. After creating Tropical Fish Skirt and Fancy Guppy Skirt, I thought it would be appropriate to keep with the theme of beautiful tropical lagoons, colorful fish, and unusual shapes for this particular skirt too, thus the skirt name.

The skirt is worked sideways and has short row shaping. The short rows are used to make this skirt very twirly.
The skirt is worked flat and then grafted or sewn together.
Next the waistband stitches are picked up and worked in the round, folded in half and sewn to the inside. The elastic is threaded through the waistband.

The hemline is also picked up and knitted in the round.

The design is very simple and allows for a great range of customization: size, length, and yarn weights. A complete worksheet for a custom skirt is included at the end.

The pattern is best suited for a variegated yarn with long color stretches (5-10 inches long); it will also look very pretty in self-striping yarns. Alternatively you could create your own unique rainbow stripes from your preferred solid colors.

The pattern is very easy and will cure you of your fears of short rows for sure!

Have fun and enjoy the process!
