Gorgeous surface crochet creates a mystery pattern for A New Twist crochet group on Ravelry. Thoroughly tested and approved by a wide audience. This would make an excellent block to start a complete afghan, or be a great addition to a sampler’ghan.

Note for Rnd 16: Depending on where you end out in RND 15, the intention for RND 16 is to have a ch-4 space on either side of the corner sc. If that doesn’t work for you as written, you may have to start with a ch 4, and finish with a ch 4 for each repeat, instead of working a 2 ch-4 in a row. There will be 8 ch-3 spaces on the sides otherwise.
Jan 24: corrected copy for RND 16, clarified RND counts for RND 11.
