Design of the cardigan is based on popular in the 16th-19th century sleeves in women’s clothing. They were called gigot sleeves (French for “back leg of an animal”, known also as “leg-of-lamb” sleeves). They have a low armhole, are puffy at the shoulders and tight from the elbow to the wrist.
