Enjoy knitting these nostalgic socks featuring a charming small checked pattern. They require only small amounts of yarn, making them perfect for using up leftovers — and you can mix and match colors however you like.

Sizes: Men (Women) Children approx. 6–9 years (Children approx. 3–5 years).
The foot length can be adjusted as you knit, so the socks will fit all men’s, women’s, and children’s sizes.
Yarn: Arwetta from Filiconlana.
Yarn amount: approx. 50 (40) 35 (30) g of the main color, and approx. 20 (15) 10 (10) g of each of the two pattern colors.
Gauge: 34 stitches in colorwork on 2.5 mm needles = 10 cm.
Needles: Double-pointed needles 2.5 mm.

Tip!
You can also use yarn other than Arwetta. Just make sure the yarn has roughly the same gauge so the sock doesn’t turn out too big or too small. It can also be wise to choose a yarn that contains a bit of nylon when knitting socks. This makes them far more durable and long-lasting.

ABOUT THE PATTERN AND COLORS
You can knit the color-check socks in any colors you like, but to achieve the interplay between the tones, this is key:
Choose a light color variant as your main color—such as light green, light blue, pink, or grey.

You’ll also need two pattern colors. I recommend choosing one pattern color that is a darker version of your main color. Using the examples above, this would mean dark green, dark blue, red/dark pink, or black.

In addition, I recommend using white, cream, off-white, or something similar as your second pattern color. The white will provide a nice contrast to the other two colors and really make them stand out.

In the chart in the pattern, I show the sock with light blue, dark blue, and white. When you knit, you are completely free to choose your own colors. When you follow the chart, interpret the light blue squares as your main color, the dark blue squares as your first pattern color, and the white squares as your second pattern color.
