Pattern Notes
Head, Neck and Body are worked as one piece, flat in rows using the colour of yarn chosen. Except where indicated for the Face, which is worked in rounds in main colour yarn or cream/white to give face markings. indicates total stitches on the row. Work from second chain from hook, on all chains.
The Legs are worked from the row ends of the body using main colour of yarn chosen with single crochet at the places marked with yarn/stitch markers.
Underneath body piece has the legs worked as with the Head, Neck, Body piece.
The completed Ears are fluffed up and felted before sewing to the head.
Materials Needed
2.5 mm crochet hook
4 ply wool mix/acrylic yarn in colour of choice (80% wool used in pattern) 50g. 4 ply yarn (optional) for hoof colour approx. 7 yards/metres. 4 ply cotton yarn approx. 5 yards/metres, cut into lengths of 10x 6 inch (15cms), 10x 12 inch (30cms). Scrap pieces of white/cream for face markings (optional).
All lengths and weight of yarn are approximate and to be used as a guide.
Short lengths of yarn for marking leg and tail positions or stitch markers.
Safety eyes.
Hollow fibre stuffing (pillow fibre used in pattern).
Safety pins or sewing pins.
Medium eye sewing needle.
Pet slicker brush (to bring up the pile to felt). Comb for mane and tail.
2 sizes of felting needles 36 and 38 gauge (shape of needles not important) to felt the pile and create definition.
Sponge as a felting board.
Hair straighteners or Iron, to flatten and shine mane and tail.
