In the spirit of spring, this cute afghan pattern stitch of bunnies, baskets and eggs multiplying everywhere on bright green meadows will make you smile. The pattern skill level is intermediate but it won’t bore the advanced crocheters because of its tricky little double back and forth on top of the bunny heads for the ears. Pattern is both written in American crochet terms & charted. Hook size is G (4.25 mm) (that’s the size my Susan Bates hook says) and yarn is standard worsted weight. Photo is of Red Heart Super Saver. Made to whatever size you choose, this makes a great throw for the sofa for the chill still in the air on spring nights. Add a couple throw pillows and you have a nice festive set.

Pattern is for the STITCH pattern shown in the photo… you make whatever item you want with it… or whatever size afghan you wish and finish the edges yourself. It could make anything: blanket, bedspread, baby blanket, pillows, clothing, poncho, scarf, even a nice bathroom set for Easter. That is all up to you.

Pro Tip: Before starting a project with this stitch make up a swatch following the chart dimensions so you can judge your gauge and get the hang of it before you start. You will end up with a cute rectangle piece that could make a nifty pencil or cosmetics bag. Most of all, you will be completely prepared to proceed with your project having established your own gauge & color choices.

This stitch is so versatile if you are familiar with crochet…

Ideas:

The bands of bunnies, Easter eggs & Easter baskets on the grass can be swapped around in different orders.

You can make any single band into a whole piece of just bunnies, eggs or baskets in rows on the grass.

You can also make any single band of bunnies, eggs or baskets on the grass into an edging pattern by adding the top grass row as well. ( I made an edge of bunnies sitting on grass with blue across their heads for sky and then tacked it on the edge of our mantle for an Easter decoration)

You can add beads to the tops of the baskets for “eggs”.
