This pattern uses a self-striping variegated yarn to produce a striped hat with comfy earflaps to keep out the winter chill.

The hat is worked flat on straight needles and seamed with mattress stitch to create an invisible close at the back of the hat.

Knitted I-cord makes great ties for the hat, or you could attach braids if you prefer.

A crochet edge done in reverse single crochet is optional, but smooths the edge with a rope-like finish.

Yarn color shown in picture is DN600-04 “Walden Pond.”
