Ack! It’s Monday morning and we’re late for school again and it’s cold but I can’t find my coat because I know you kids used it to build a fort and you never hung it back up. Breathe. Breathe. Grab the hat and Late for School Cowl, the coffee, the kids… and RUN!

The Late for School Hat will keep you warm on a cold day, especially when the kids have hidden your coat. It is knit in the round and striped with two colors of yarn, however each row only uses one color at a time. It’s also a great project to use up yarn scraps or leftovers. Unlike your life, it is simple, elegant, and seems more complicated than it actually is.

Finished sizes: 7 sizes—Newborn through Adult XL. This hat is VERY stretchy, so you will want to pick a size that is at least an inch or two smaller than your head circumference.

  • Hat circumference (unstretched) = 13.5 (15, 16.5, 18, 19.5, 21, 22.5)” or 34 (38, 42, 46, 49.5, 53, 57)cm.
  • Approximate height = 5.5 (6, 6.25, 7.25, 7.5, 7.75, 8.75)” or 14 (15, 16, 18.5, 19, 19.5, 22)cm.

Skill Level: Advanced beginner to intermediate. Must be able to knit in the round. This is a good “first colorwork” project. There are some special stitches, but they are explained fully with pictures.
