Longing The Cardigan is knitted top down on a circular needle. It starts by knitting the ribbing back and forth and then the neckline is shaped with German shortrows, described in the pattern. Then it’s joined in the round and stitches for the steak are added in front before the cardigan is worked in the round according to the instructions in the pattern. The steek is cut open and then the button bands are knitted.

Longing is also available as a sock pattern, Longing, with the same pattern of roses, leaves and stripes as the cardigan. These socks were my first pattern, published in 2016, called Longing for Gotland. The pattern is now updated and called Longing Socks.

The rose pattern has been found on old socks from Gotland. I am so grateful that many of you have knitted this pattern and hopefully there will be more now when I am relaunching the Longing Socks and also releasing the pattern for Longing the Cardigan here on Ravelry!
