Placemats in the Hearth? Heart Pads? Heart Felt? Wool Ewe Be Mine? You decide. Make simple coasters or use a combination of pattern repeats in different arrays for potholders/napkins/cleaning cloths, towels and placemats. Follow charted (or written) instructions.

Try non-synthetic (heat proof) felting wools for potholders and placemats or cotton, hemp and linen for coasters, towels, napkins and cleaning cloths. Dimensions are given in worsted weight cotton or wool with size US 7 (4.5mm) needles. Adjust the needle size and/or yarn weight to obtain the gauge and cloth size desired. A light felting of wool items can be achieved with a front-loading washer using cold water and permanent press cycle with a load of towels. Block to dry (hand-wash for cleaning).

The pattern is a great way to use up small quantities of leftover yarn; use contrasting solid colors or try variegated, gradient or self-striping yarn for one of the colors. As long as the contrasting and main colors contrast well, the pattern will reveal itself.

The pattern provides many variations for useful household linens and great gifts!

Mosaic garter stitch involves garter (knit) and slipped stitches using one strand of yarn for two rows at a time (switching color strands every two rows). If you can knit stripes and slip stitches it will be easy.

Make projects with either the charts or the full-written pattern, both written and charted instructions are provided.
