A customer requested an olive hat for her soon-to-be-born niece, Olive. I was disappointed by the surprising lack of available patterns online, so decided to design my own hat. Voila: the Olive Baby Beanie!

In order to create the effect of the pimiento “popping” out of the olive, I designed this pattern to be worked from the bottom up. The majority of the beanie is worked in simple hdc, but the color change is worked in the 3rd loop to create the 3-D effect. If you don’t know how to work in the 3rd loop, don’t sweat it! I’ve included a photo tutorial! The hat is finished off with a round of loose slip stitch to add a finished look to the pimiento.

This hat works for both girls and boys, so whether you have an Olive or an Oliver, whip up this adorable beanie pattern, available in sizes up to 3 years!
