Even the warmest summer days can bring a chill across your shoulders in the cooler walks of the evening strolling along the water’s edge at the beach or maybe even at the cottage. ( I always envy those that are lucky enough to have a cottage).

Regardless of which season you wear this shawl in, you will find it a relaxing and simple project to knit.

For maximum drape and an open and airy feel, this shawl was knit on a larger needle size than the yarn requires. The bottom border edge is knit with a size smaller needle but you can easily knit the entire shawl with one size. This will affect size and yardage slightly.

The shawl is knit beginning at the top neck edge.

Yarns Used:
Berroco Vintage Chunky 52% Acrylic, 40% Wool, 8% Nylon.
100 gr/3.5 oz 125 m/136 yds. 7 wpi.
Colour # 6194 Breezeway (Colour G in instructions).
4 skeins.

James C. Brett Marble Chunky 100% Acrylic
200 gr/7.05 oz 312 m/341 yds. 7 wpi.
Colour # MC 02 Sandpiper (Colour M in instructions).
1 ball.

Supplies:
8 mm/11 US circular needles 60”/150 cm.
You may want to start with shorter needles and switch to longer needles as your shawl
increases in stitches. Shawl is knit flat, circulars are for the large volume of stitches.
7 mm circular needles 60”/150 cm.
3 stitch markers.
Tapestry needle.

Abbreviations:
K……………………..knit.
P………………………purl.
Kfb…………………..knit into the front and back of the same stitch. Increases 1 stitch.

BM…………………..before marker.
PM…………………..place marker.
SM…………………..slip marker.
SL1KW…………….slip next stitch knitwise as if to knit.
YO……………………yarnover
A yarnover is done by bringing the yarn forward between the needles as if to purl and then holding it over the right hand needle. As you knit the next stitch the yarnover creates a new stitch.
