I designed Snezhanka a year ago, as a gift for my friend Julie. Like most of my “designs,” I made Julie’s Snezhanka without writing down or remembering anything. It was when she wore the hat home to Ohio, and a relative begged her for the pattern, that I resolved to start taking notes when I make something up.

Fast, soft, and pillowy, this brioche hat knits up in a flash. If you need a warm hat like yesterday, this is the one to cast on. Made with Puffin in pale, silvery Frost, Snezhanka’s deeply textured stitches and meaty pom-pom are accentuated by the yarn’s slight sheen.

Named after the Bulgarian “Snow White,” Snezhanka’s color and texture reminded me of a sunbeam hitting a pile of snow.
