Saint Ninian’s is a gorgeous tombolo in Shetland. The ocean crashes into the beach on two sides. The shawl resembles the beach, the shells wash up on both sides. When you’re wearing the shawl, the shells are on full display, making it very special.

This delicate lace pattern is a very old Shetland pattern and this deep red yarn makes the shawl a very pretty item to wear.

The shawl is knitted in two parts which are grafted together in the middle. That means you have to split the ball/skein or use 2 separate balls/skeins.

Pattern has written and charted rows.

Update: in the original written rows the fagotting missed one stitch, in the 2.0 version this is corrected in the written instructions.

Size: 195cm x 73cm or 79” x 29”

Gauge isn’t that important, you could swatch a pattern repeat to make sure the lace will not be too open.
I wouldn’t use bigger needles, the shape of the shells will be lost easily.
