Do you have some unemployed variegated yarn in your stash? We all buy the skeins under the ‘oh pretty!’ spell, but then what to do with them? I’m embarking on a quest to come up with a few designs that highlight beautiful variegated yarn.

This is an easy and rhythmic knit – especially if you master knitting backwards! There’s a post on my blog to help with that.

Skills required
• Long-tail cast-on
• Short rows
• Picking up stitches in a slipped stitch edge

Materials
• Approximately 1200 yards of fingering weight yarn – 840 yards of C1 (the solid in the sample) and 360 yards of C2 (the variegated in the sample)
• US 5/3.75 mm needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Because of the large number of stitches, a circular needle works best
• 25 stitch markers
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
