Design Notes:

This bathing suit is two pieces. The top is worked flat, from the top down, and then a single crochet border is worked around the edge and straps are attached to the front. The top is not seamed together, but when the border is worked around the back edge gaps are placed along the back for the straps to be laced through. The top can then be adjusted to be tighter or looser as the wearer desires, though it is designed to be more form fitted. The sections across the breasts is worked in a tight single crochet so that it creates a solid fabric and won’t need to be lined. The bottoms are worked flat, front to back, , and then a border is worked around the entire edge. Ties are added to the side of the bottoms to hold them together and for adjustments. This top and bottom are designed to fit a Small/Medium, with a bust size 32” to 36” and bottoms hip size 34” to 36”. The fit of both pieces is adjustable because of the ties at the back of the top and side of the bottoms.

Gauge, Material, and Hook Size:

Gauge: 12 rows x 10 sts = 2” square in Single Crochet with a 3.5 mm hook

(Note: When working in a single crochet the stitches should be tight so for that section essentially a solid piece of fabric is created. A smaller hook than normally used for worsted weight yarn is recommended.)

Material: The pictured suit is made out of mercerized worsted weight cotton yarn (Lion Brand 24/7 cotton). For a bathing suit this is the most appropriate material as it won’t get heavy and stretch out when it gets wet.

For the green suit:
For the Main colour: 1 ball Lion Brand 24/7 cotton “Mint, 156” and the contrast stripes at the back of the bottoms are 1 ball Lion Brand 24/7 cotton “Jade, 178” and 1 ball Lion Brand 24/7 cotton “Charcoal, 150”. If the main piece of the suit (top and bottom) were to be entirely the same colour 2 balls of yarn would be required (in this case, 2 balls of Lion Brand 24/7 cotton “Mint”)
For the Contrast Colour: 1 ball Lion Brand 24/7 cotton“White, 100”

For the yellow suit top:
For the Main colour: 1 ball Lion Brand 24/7 cotton in “Lemon, 157”
For the Contrast Colour: 1 ball Lion Brand 24/7 cotton“White, 100”
