Designs have strange ways of coming into being. This design started as a short row hat that was cut from a previous book. I’d worked endless crowns of the hat in Tunisian Simple Stitch to get the size and shaping right and ended up with countless fans and semicircles. As I struggled to finalise this last design for Shawls Three, I took a break from a NINE hour swatching session and did some cleaning, stumbling upon those previous hat attempts and a shawl was born.

1 100g skein of The Border Tart Mars Luxury 4ply (60% merino 20% silk 20% yak, 400m) in Dark Indigo.
1 set of 5 20g mini skeins of The Border Tart 4ply (100% superwash merino, 400m)

You do not need a special Tunisian hook for this, but will need one without a comfort grip.

12 sts and 15 rows in Tunisian Simple Stitch to 10 cm/4 in using 6.5mm hook (or size needed to achieve tension)

Construction
The modules are each worked individually by row. Each shell is a series of partially worked rows (also called short rows) that form a shell shape. The internal stitch of each shell is worked into a space created by chain loops to cause the stitch pattern to fan out. The shells are linked to the row below by working the return pass through both the corresponding stitch on the row below and the stitches on your hook.
