Mug cosy knitted on straight needles, in stocking stitch, with garter stitch borders. To fit a mug of 27cm (10.75”) in diameter and 10cm (4”) high

Size: 26cm (10.25”) diameter; 9cm (3.5”) high

Yarn: Part of 100g King Cole Chunky Tweed in Lewis

Needles: 5.5mm (9US)

Pattern:

• Using 5.5mm needles cast on 14 stitches, leaving a long tail, as this will be used to sew the join
• Border
o Row 1: Knit 14 stitches, turn
o Row 2: Knit 14 stitches, turn
o Row 3: Knit 14 stitches, turn
o Row 4: Knit 14 stitches, turn
• Stocking Stitch Pattern
o Row 5: Knit 4 stitches, Purl 10 stitches, Knit 4 stitches, turn
o Row 6: Purl 14 stitches, turn
o Repeat Row 5 and Row 6 until the length of the stocking stitch section measures approximately 23 cm (9”)
• Border
o Row 1: Knit 14 stitches, turn
o Row 2: Knit 14 stitches, turn
o Row 3: Knit 14 stitches, turn
o Row 4: Knit 14 stitches, turn
• Cast off, leaving a length of approximately 40cm (16”) to make Button Loop
• Using a crochet hook, and the length of yarn after casting off, crochet approximately 12 stitches and fasten in where you started to form a loop. Fasten off.
• Alternatively, knit an i-cord of approximately 12cm (4.5”), and form a loop. Fasten off.
• Using the cast on tail, thread a needle, fold the knitted piece in half, and sew together at the bottom, with just 3 or 4 stitches. Fasten off
• Sew button on opposite site to button loop
• Pull on over mug – enjoy!
