Herringbone is my absolute favorite stitch to use while knitting, so why not make an entire garment out of it? This sweater is created bottom-up and has a cropped, drop-shoulder style with a boatneck – a classic fit for all body types. The hem of the body and sleeves, along with the neckline, feature a neatly finished I-cord edging. The shoulder seams are made utilizing a “braided-seam” technique, which leaves a clean but beautiful shoulder detail that leads perfectly into the I-cord neckline. Herringbone is definitely a stitch that takes time (I personally find it therapeutic); but no matter how long it takes you, the end result is so incredibly worth it. I hope this becomes one of your favorite sweaters. So, without further ado, pick up your sticks and start knitting those bones (herringbone that is). Happy knitting!

Suggested Needles
U.S. Size 8 (5 mm) double pointed needles
U.S. Size 8 (5 mm) 9” circular needles (or your preferred length for knitting sleeves in the round)
U.S. Size 10 (6 mm) circular needles, 24”-40” (depends on your sizing)
U.S. Size 13 (9 mm) circular needles, 24”-40” for body and 9” for sleeves (or your preferred length for knitting sleeves in the round)
NOTE: I highly suggest that you use needles with sharp points. This will make the herringbone stitch and I-cord edgings easier and faster to knit.

Gauge
22 stitches by 18 rows = 4” (10 cm). Using U.S. Size 13 (9 mm) needles
Make two swatches: Knit the herringbone stitch both in the round and flat. Both swatches should match gauge after being blocked. Instructions for in the round: Use R1 and R2 on page 5. Instructions for flat: Use R3 and R4 on page 6.
