Upwards is featuring a fun to work stitch pattern that highlights the beautiful different shadings of handdyed variegated yarns.

It comes as a cowl and a shawl version.
You’ll be able to download two different pdf files, one for each shape.

Both are easy to adjust to the amount of yardage you have available. Just pick a variegated yarn in the weight of your choice, the pattern works well in any yarn weight from fingering to aran (details see below).

SHAWL:

  • Sideways bias knit, asymmetrical triangular shawl with a curved top edge.
  • Allow at least 300yds / 275m to get the size of the sample.
  • Size of sample: 160cm / 63“ along top edge, 38cm / 15“ deep
  • Yarn used for sample: Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend (dk weight, 100g = 300yds / 275m), 1 skein in colourway Pegasus on 4.5 mm / US 7 needles

COWL:

  • Knit in the round.
  • Allow approx. 170 m / 180 yds to get the size of the sample.
  • Size of sample: long single cowl with approx. 75cm / 29.5“ circumference, 20cm / 7.9“ tall
  • Yarn used for sample: Malabrigo Rios (worsted weight, 100g = 210 yd / 192 m), 1 skein in colourway Archangel on 5.5mm/US 9 needles

The patterns contain both written and charted instructions as well as a photo tutorial.

I hope you’ll enjoy the pattern ☺

The design was inspired by Barbara Walker’s lovely Little Tent Pattern.
