This stole is inspired by the architecture of The Glasgow Women’s Library. Founded in 1991 and housed since 2013 in a Grade B Listed Carnegie Library in Landressy Street, the library boasts a stunning modern granite extension which names the titles of important works by women. The design follows the shape of this corner extension, itself enfolding the building like the covers of a book.

The GWL’s first - and only - librarian is Wendy Kirk. She continues to promote the work of the building as a library, archive, museum and meeting space which celebrates women’s historical, cultural and political contributions which works actively to challenge inequality in society.

This stole / wrap is made on 4mm needles and takes 425m of 4 ply, with advice on managing a shorter meterage. There is an optional element of a few grammes of red yarn. ‘Wendy Kirk’ samples were made in Tight Knit Yarns Spires colourway and Skein Queen in Glasgow Tenement.

Other good ‘granite’ options would be The Knitting Goddess Britsock in Coal, For the Love of Yarn Charcoal or Rusty Ferret Doll-base in Static
