Not finished with all the carding but started spinning this fiber. The fiber is nice, but there are a lot of neps. I think much of it is from the sunbleached tips. I might try combing with some of the rest of this fiber. (I have a lot left, of course!)
Trying to spin a little thicker than my default. I’d like a worsted weight 3 ply. Lots of halo on the singles. This will probably be a nice light and fluffy yarn.
For bobbin number one I’ve taken about five batts and I’m pulling strips of them one at a time to spin so there will be variation in the yarn. Most of the batts are shades of blue-green. One has a little red in it.
Bobbin number two has a little more of the natural gray and the red blended with the blue and green.

3 skeins done. 162 g.
Lots of fiber still left.

Two bobbins done on round two. Have started to refill the third bobbin. I still have a lot of batts left.

Started to top off bobbins for round 3 of plying. I have about 100 g of the blue left and two bobbins still to top off. The box of batts with more red totals 243 g. That will be next.

Finished the box of mostly blue-green batts. I ended up with four more skeins, plus a small skein of chain-plied yarn from what was left on the bobbins. I didn’t do such a good job of estimating their equality this time. Total of this batch of skeins is 304 grams.
Total from this box 466 g or 16.4 ounces.
The second batch of yarn is much more saturated color than the first batch. Not sure if this is because of the choice of batts from the box as I was spinning or due to the way I washed the skeins on the stove and added vinegar to the rinse water. Lots of dye ran from the wash water but with the vinegar in the rinse water and the heat, that was the end of it. The first batch was also washed in very hot water, but not on the stove and with no vinegar to stop the dye running in the rinse water,
There will be an interesting gradient of color in the batches from this fleece.

Finished plying the the last batch last night and washed them this morning. These are the skeins with the most red in them.
I got three full skeins and a partial skein.
232 g (8 oz)
Total for the overdyed CVM project is
698 g or just over 1.5 lb of yarn (24.6 oz.)
The remainder of this fleece (about 1.5 lbs) is undyed natural brown and I am combing it. There is a lot of waste from uneven fleece length and second cuts. This became neps in the overdyed yarn that I was pulling out continually as I spun. It is lovely fiber but the sheering job was uneven. And maybe the fleece growth on the sheep was inconsistent. But I think the shearing was the culprit here.
