Notes

Fell in love with this pattern but wanted a sweater. Had a whole bunch of Royal Bee Yarn Company minis for contrast colors and liked the way the Sea Change Fibers yellow made them pop as the main color.

Cast on 108 (note: next time 110) on US 2’s. After 9 rows of twisted rib did 1 row knit. Switched to US 3’s and knit a round of increases knit 3, inc 1 around 144 total. 4 sets of short rows (at 29 stitches +4 +4 +4). Increased to 154. Made a berry necklace in lighter orange by using the pattern from chart A1 rows 22-18. Increased to 180.

I have 3 daughters and 3 grandsons, so I wanted a 3 egg nest in beige and brown(eggs in mc yellow). I found one through a web quest, but the originator wasn’t credited. Added brown brambles to echo the songbird charts, and launched in with 6 repeats. Maaan! It was hard to wrap my head around how to increase every few rows and keep the bramble and nest charts continuous. I ad libbed as I went and just watched the pattern emerge from my needles. I don’t know how professional chart makers do it! Halfway through, I retooled the brambles I charted since I added stitches somewhat haphazardly. I finished with 300 stitches.

Knit one row. Increased to 328 and moved beginning of round back 30 stitches to center Songbird charts in manzanita color and deeper orange. Created a 22 stitch chart between original Songbird charts using motifs from the original.

Split when center front yoke depth was about 8” (row 29- counting backwards). Put one original chart center front, one center back, and one on each sleeve. Since I had my 2 added 22 stitch chart under each arm, I added 16 stitches under each arm to make a full chart on each side. 104 front +16; 59 arm; 104 +16 back; 59 arm.

For small bird chart portion, switched to brown and wine red.

For sleeves, picked up a few extra stitches to prevent holes and knit them together until I had 75 stitches total. Knit in pattern from row 29 to row 20 stitch 41. Then knit all yellow background color for 12”. Reduced 3 stitches over the next 1 1/2” to 72 stitches. At 15 1/4” knit berry “bracelet” to match neckline pattern. Knit 1/4”. Then knit 1” twisted ribbing on US2’s.
